Local Business Award.

Just Cuts Macarthur Square have taken the top prize at the Campbelltown Local Business Awards, voted the top hairdresser for 2020 from a pool of 14 salon finalists in the category.

Owner Joanne Ashkar has worked in the business for 20 years, previously as a Stylist, and since purchasing the business in 2016 her team have been named finalists for the last few years.

“This Award win is a concrete acknowledgement of the work we do,” says Joanne. “I’m humbled.”

“This year’s been tough for small business owners like myself. To have ourclients stop and take the time to vote and provide positive feedback on how much they love my business means so much."

The Judging process considered factors like community responsibility, value and customer service.

“Customer service always comes first in hairdressing because it’s a personal service,” says Joanne.

“While we offer a no appointments - just walk in service, our clients trust our Stylists to provide the same quality Style Cuts they’re comfortable and happy with every time. Our personal touch has turned so many walk-in clients into regulars that we’ve built a trusting relationship with.”

“There are plenty of places to get a haircut, but if customers aren’t happy with the experience and the service, they won’t come back.”

Joanne is passionate about local causes, providing over 200 free haircuts for the homeless to date.

“Each month myself and one of my Stylists attend the We Are Community dinner service to provide free haircuts for the homeless, and we've performed over $7,000 worth of Style Cuts so far.”

“We could do anything to their hair and they’d still be grateful - many just want someone to talk to – just a small conversation can have a big impact. Our service is so much more than a haircut.”

“I'm a strong believer that successful business needs to have a successful social element, especially during COVID-19, when so many are struggling.”

“If small businesses like mine all supported local charities, we could make a huge difference together.”

Joanne believes the COVID-19 challenge will change the hairdressing industry permanently.

“Safe hygiene practices have always been part of Just Cuts, and will be even more important moving forward – I’d say forever,” adds Joanne.

“We’re all going to have to live with COVID-19, so we need to make our businesses work around it.”

Joanne plans to commemorate the win with her 8 stylists at a team dinner.

“In years past I would celebrate with the girls on the night, but we’ll go out as a small group instead.”
